Over the past 30 years, MACERUDET has worked with the local community to help rehabilitate and recover the area.
MMANZE FISH FARMING PROJECT
The answer is yes. The potential is there, as numerous pilot projects have demonstrated and this one will demonstrate and work for communities in Masulita subcounty in Wakiso district, Central Uganda.
Can aquaculture make good the growing shortfall between the declining yield of captured fisheries and growing consumer demand for fish in Africa?
Mmanze is facing severe sustainability challenges.
In recent years, the traditional fishery business is becoming less profitable due to resource-sharing conflicts, climate change, overfishing, pollution, and loss of biodiversity. Increase in the local population creates a heavier demand on basic infrastructure, nutritious diet, and social welfare programming.
The COVID-19 pandemic has made the challenge tougher. The parents who have since become jobless have to deal with financial difficulties while taking care of their children. Essential workers, on the other hand, work on a more stringent time schedule due to the limited transportation.
OUR SOLUTION
The Mmanze Fish Farming Project (MFFP) brings the idea of constructing a sustainable community-based fish farming to life.

The fish produced by the MFFP improves the nutrition profile, accessibility, and affordability for Mmanze and surrounding communities. The fish surplus would then go to meet the demand of the growing local fish market, bringing in a new source of income for the Mmanze people. Under the lead of MACERUDET, the MFFP serves to provide the tools, training, and resources needed by youth, women, and other interested local people to fight poverty and improve on livelihood and health, to feed themselves, their families, and their communities.
CHILD SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM
Right now, our main priority is to help the children in the Mmanze communitiy. Please consider sponsoring a child to help them pursue their educational goals and receive necessities during the pandemic. Each child in kindergarten and primary school needs some money every year to cater for tuition, medical care, school lunch, scholastic materials such as books and pens, school bags, shoes, school uniform and other requirements.
